It’s the cake, stupid. Or possibly the bacon butty. If you really want to ensnare a snapper offer them both repeatedly. That’s the tactic of Gaynor Salisbury, owner of Loopy Lorna’s Tea Houses in Morningside.
I managed to wangle two separate jobs at their new tea house in the Church Hill Theatre at the top of Morningside, Edinburgh in a week and the food was flowing. It’s a devastatingly simple strategy and it did mean that I spent much longer on the job than I – or my desk – had planned.
My first job of the two was simply to snap Gaynor with her latest award, entrepreneur of the year. This was followed by a recipe for one of her and her chef’s latest creations, a strawberry, marshmallow and white chocolate cake which weighed more than a newborn. But if you can’t quite muster the effort to make the cake, you know where to find it.
